The Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) First Receiver Awareness Course provides foundational knowledge for personnel who may encounter or support individuals exposed to hazardous substances during an emergency. The course is designed for healthcare providers, emergency responders, and other professionals involved in incident management, regardless of organizational or national context.
Participants will gain an understanding of how to recognize hazardous material events, maintain personal safety, establish contamination control zones, and coordinate effectively with response partners. The course promotes readiness through the application of internationally recognized best practices and response frameworks for hazardous materials incidents.
This two-hour, self-paced course consists of the following modules:
- Introduction to HAZMAT and First Receivers
- HAZMAT Spill Management
- HAZMAT Emergencies
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate awareness-level knowledge as a First Receiver.
- Prepare medical personnel to effectively participate in medical decontamination and clinical management training.,
- Recognize hazardous materials incidents and potential exposure situations in healthcare and emergency settings.
