Course Description

The objective of this course is to teach students various tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) for responding to Hazmat hazards based off International Standards and Best Practices. These TTPs include surveying facilities, conducting downwind hazard analysis, plume modeling, establishing chemical agent detection monitoring grids, surveying the ground for contamination, and implementing public protective actions. Additionally, students will learn about equipment preventative maintenance and troubleshooting techniques to optimize the life of the equipment. This course will conclude with 5 days of life-like Hazmat Response scenarios to put all newly acquired skills into practice.

Taught to the NFPA 472 Standard - Hazmat Technician Level


Course Objectives

  • Display knowledge of various Hazmat/CBRN agents and their signs and symptoms
  • Determine preventative maintenance measures for Hazmat response equipment
  • Apply plume modeling techniques to various potential Hazmat incidents
  • Demonstrate practical application of incident management systems in various Hazmat incidents
  • Evaluate differing TTPs and apply correct action steps in responding to various Hazmat scenarios
  • Display advanced level understanding of various survey, sampling, and detection strategies

Course Length: 10-days
Format: Combination of in-class, knowledge-based and field-based, practical training
Class Size: 25-35 Participants (depending on class space, PPE, and decontamination stations)
Prerequisites: CBRN/Hazmat Operations Course
Instructors: Three certified Hazmat specialists
Certificate: Issued upon successful competion of the course
