Course Description

The HICS Awareness Course will provide an introduction to HICS for all levels of medical staff regardless of role or responsibilities with the disaster response efforts. This course focuses on learning the framework of HICS (history, features, principles and organizational structure) and how it is used to manage disaster response. General medical staff will learn potential ways they may be utilized during disaster response efforts.

This course serves as a prerequisite for the other HICS courses offered.


Course Objectives

  • Describe the role of HICS in hospital disaster response
  • Assess various roles and responsibilities within HICS
  • Identify various roles for general medical staff within HICS for their medical facility
